Advantages and disadvantages

There are several advantages to using drywall:

• environmentally friendly and safe for health;

• perfectly masks defects of surfaces and communications;
• has good thermal and sound insulation;
• creates a comfortable microclimate;
• completely ready for application of finishing coatings;

There are no synthetic additives or toxic substances in drywall; it can safely be considered environmentally friendly and safe. The material lends itself perfectly to processing and modification. Thanks to this, complex reliefs and structures can be easily created. Pipes, wiring, wall voids, and various communications are quickly and accurately masked using drywall. It has the properties of absorbing and releasing moisture, regulating optimal climate indicators in the room. The front surface of the material is almost completely ready for decorative cladding. The cost of finishing gypsum plasterboard will be cheaper than plastering, while the process itself will be much simpler and cleaner.

Disadvantages include fragility and instability to strong influences of water. If a water supply breaks in a room and flooding occurs, then with prolonged contact with water, even moisture-resistant drywall will swell, deform and deteriorate. Strong impacts damage plasterboard surfaces, and shelves and racks made from this material cannot withstand too heavy objects. But if drywall is damaged, it can be easily repaired. And if you do not allow long-term interaction with large volumes of water, then we can assume that it has practically no disadvantages.

Relief wall decoration

Using plasterboard in the interior it is possible to create any relief composition and realize the most interesting ideas. To do this, you first need to design what kind of pattern or shape you want to decorate the walls with. Next, the room is prepared and the workspace is freed up. The surface must be cleaned, existing cracks must be puttied, and markings can be applied for the future relief composition. A profile frame is installed along the marked lines, which is subsequently sheathed with plasterboard sheets using self-tapping screws. The resulting figure should be puttied, after which it can be decorated with paints, wallpaper, decorative stone or tiles.

On a wall covered with smooth plasterboard, it is easy to create any relief using gypsum or decorative plaster. Some manufacturers offer 3D gypsum panels with extraordinary relief designs. True, such a new product is sometimes difficult to find on the open market; in some cases, panels are made to order.

Step-by-step wall assembly

We make a partition from plasterboard with our own hands step by step. First of all, when creating a partition from plasterboard, you need to draw up an accurate plan and drawing. After this, you will need to mark the part of the room in which the partition will be located.

The marking is done exactly according to the prepared drawing. After marking is completed, assembly of the metal profile frame begins. All guides are installed from a rectangular profile.

Please note that the metal will be fastened to each other and to the walls, floor and ceiling using different screws.

Now the wiring is done if you are going to do additional lighting. All cords and cables are placed inside the structure.

Only after this begins the fastening of plasterboard sheets to the finished frame using specialized self-tapping screws.

If you want to insulate your partition, after laying the sheets on one side, insulation is placed and only then the other side is decorated.

After completing the assembly, be sure to do the finishing touches. Here's how to make a plasterboard partition in a house or apartment.

Drywall arches

In modern interiors, especially in living rooms and hallways, arched structures of various types are often found. The most popular are classic and domed doorway designs. Also, with the help of a decorative arch, the room is divided into separate zones. The design itself can be simple or have curved smooth lines and patterned cutouts. It depends on the imagination of the performer. An experienced craftsman must create an arch, since this process requires precise calculations and a certain skill.

For this work, in most cases, arched plasterboard with a thickness of 6.5 mm is used. The opening width and bending radius are preliminarily measured. Next, according to the obtained dimensions, the gypsum board is cut out. At the required site, a stable arc-shaped metal frame is manufactured and firmly attached, which is subsequently covered with plasterboard. At this stage, the lighting is thought out; it should be installed before the sheathing begins. The work must be done carefully and carefully to avoid gross mistakes and damage to the fragile drywall.

Making a beautiful design: laying plasterboard with tiles

Another idea for wall decoration is the use of tiles. Most often this is done in bathrooms and kitchens, where ceramics are applied to waterproof plasterboards. In these cases, sheets are often used to hide communication systems, such as pipes. They are simply covered with a plasterboard box, and tiles are applied on top: it turns out comfortable and beautiful.

In addition to ceramics, you can use any type of stone: there are many varieties on the market for decorating plasterboard walls. In some photos that reflect this type of decoration, it can be seen that the stone does not cover the entire surface of the wall, but is located around an arch, doorway, mirror or fireplace. This is a great way to inexpensively style a room or simulate full stonework.

Materials such as tiles and stone are applied to a decorative plasterboard wall using a special adhesive that is available in building materials stores. In this case, it is important to calculate the dimensions and outline in advance how the finishing elements will fit. All work must be done very carefully and carefully control the tightness of the materials.

Niches

Niches made of plasterboard can save space in the room and provide storage space. Unlike shelves, they are not placed on the wall, but inside it. Such designs can perform practical and decorative functions at the same time. The most important thing in creating a niche is the strongest possible frame that can support heavy objects. After all, sometimes they can accommodate a plasma TV, ceramic vases and other things. If the frame does not have sufficient strength, the structure will simply fall apart. Therefore, an experienced, skilled specialist must create and install plasterboard niches.

Features of installation of plasterboard partitions

This material allows you to create different types of partition elements:

• Stationary. These are frame-sheathing structures with hinged doors or arches. It is possible to install the partition not up to the ceiling or in the form of a ledge - this is often done in offices.
• Sliding. With their help, they can easily transform a room, creating closed functional areas or open space with one movement of the hand.
• Reinforced. The base of the partition is lined with two layers of gypsum board. This increases the level of thermal protection and noise insulation.

If we talk about aesthetic qualities, then you can make the decorative partition straight or curly. In the latter case, the sheet is bent and trimmed, giving it the required round or wavy shape. The first version of the partition elements does not necessarily have the shape of a rectangle. It can also be polygonal. Both straight and shaped partitions, covered with plasterboard sheets, can include a variety of niches, openings, glass and metal decors.

The frameless method of installing gypsum boards is only possible on a wall or ceiling. If a partition element is created to zone the space, you will need to assemble a frame from a metal profile or wooden beams.

The plasterboard sheets themselves are selected depending on the type of room and purpose of the structure:

If you plan to paint or wallpaper a future product, it is better to choose sheets with rounded or thinned edges. In this case, when filling the joints, the composition will lie more evenly.

Decorative partitions

Partitions are often used to divide rooms in an apartment. For example, with the help of such configurations you can create additional space for a dressing room in the bedroom or separate the work and dining areas in the kitchen. The appearance of the partitions can be absolutely any. It can be an openwork or patterned wall based on a curved frame. Or with strict geometric shapes and additional shelves for arranging decorative details. Often piers hide wiring and various communications. You can create such a design yourself if you carefully read the instructions and study the relevant information materials.

Plasterboard shelves

In a room, it’s easy to create a beautiful functional shelf from gypsum plasterboard, or you can combine many of these elements in one overall composition and you’ll get a kind of furniture wall. At the same time, it will ideally suit the style and dimensions of the room.

The principle of creating plasterboard structures is based on the same steps:

1. design, drawing up drawings and sketches;
2. placing markings on the working surface;
3. production and installation of the frame;
4. cutting sheets and covering the base;
5. decoration.
