Composition and purpose
EP-057 contains:
- zinc powder;
- epoxy resin;
- polyamide hardener.
The primer is a suspension of powder, resin and polyamide, modified with polyurethane resins. Primer color is grey.
The purpose of the paint and varnish protector material is to protect metal structures from corrosion, which:
- operated in atmospheric conditions;
- exposed to aggressive effects of sea or fresh water;
- are in conditions of high humidity.
Use EP-057 primer to protect:
- containers in which petroleum products are stored and transported;
- pipelines.
The zinc composition is used to prime transport bodies (cars, ships, trains), and equipment that is exposed to aggressive environments. In everyday life, the composition is used for protection:
- gates, fences and wickets;
- pillars;
- water and sewer pipes;
- drainage gutters;
- roofs
The primer can be used in kitchens and bathrooms, on balconies, and in swimming pools. Structures primed with EP-057 and coated with special enamels will last a long time even in conditions of high humidity.
Application of EP-057
The primer is used to protect vehicles, various equipment, tanks, pipelines, and at the same time, gates, metal fences, roofs and much more from corrosion.
Primer EP-057 is a high-quality paint and varnish material used both in everyday life and in industry. The primer can be used as an independent coating or for its intended purpose (priming). An undeniable advantage over standard primers is the content of zinc powder, which during operation acts as a protector.
Features and Benefits
The primer composition has powerful anti-corrosion properties. EP-057 is completely waterproof and prevents the influence of electrolyte on the surface of the metal structure. The soil not only reliably protects the metal from the aggressive effects of moisture, but also slows down the corrosion processes that have already begun.
Zinc protector:
- durable if the coating is applied according to the instructions and does not have mechanical damage that impairs its integrity;
- waterproof and water-resistant;
- resistant to stress, electrostatic, electrical and vibration;
- chemically resistant to aggressive environments;
- heat-resistant and fire-resistant, extinguishes on its own;
- insensitive to sudden temperature changes;
- Resistant to fungi, insects and ultraviolet radiation.
The primer applied to a vertical surface lies in an even layer and does not drip.
Technical characteristics of the primer EP-057
The proportion of non-volatile substances in the primer coating ranges from 87 to 89%. To prepare the mixture, the following solvents are used: RP, R-4 and R-5.
After drying, the primer applied to the metal surface forms a waterproof, matte, uniform gray film. The layer thickness varies from 65 to 70 microns, and the mixture consumption does not exceed 330 g/m. The finished composition remains suitable for application for 12 hours at an air temperature of 20 - 22 degrees.
Surface preparation
Before applying the composition, metal structures need to be prepared in a certain way:
- Remove from the surface everything that interferes with painting or accelerates corrosion: metal shavings, foreign inclusions, a layer of mineral oils, dust.
- Clean the surface to be prepared in three ways: mechanical, chemical, thermal. For chemical cleaning of surfaces, drinking water, solvents, and other compounds are used.
- After the structure is thoroughly cleaned, it is chrome-plated or phosphated. The procedure increases the properties of the paint coating - adhesion, service life.
- After the surface of the metal structure has been thoroughly cleaned, degreased and prepared, proceed to applying the primer.
Important! The mixture is used as an independent coating or as a preparation for further painting of the structure.
Surface application
The EP-057 primer is applied in several ways:
- spraying - using special equipment;
- brush;
- roller
The latter application option is advisable if the surface area to be painted is small. If the metal structure is large and the working conditions are cramped, the mixture is sprayed using pneumatic equipment. Large-sized products are coated using airless spraying, provided that high quality of the finished layer is required.
The viscosity of the working composition differs according to the chosen method of applying the primer to the metal surface. If zinc protective primer is applied to the structure:
- with a brush or roller, the composition is diluted to a viscosity of 60 - 80 s;
- pneumatic spray, the viscosity of the primer solution is 16 - 20 s;
- using the airless method, the protector is diluted to 20 - 40 s.
The temperature when applying the primer should not exceed 30 degrees. It is recommended to apply the composition in at least two layers. The drying time between painting metal surfaces is a maximum of 2 hours.
The zinc powder in the primer settles, so the finished primer is stirred periodically (every 10 - 15 minutes).
EP 057 reliable protection against corrosion
Like most similar paintwork materials, EP-057 primer is a two-pack material (see also EP-1155), consisting of a base (zinc powder, epoxy resin solution) and a hardener. Primer EP-057 is used to protect ferrous metals from corrosion in agriculture, railway and maritime transport. The coating based on EP-057 primer is highly water resistant, and its excellent protective properties ensure durability; the use of EP-057 primer is one of the main methods of cold galvanizing.

Primer EP-057 - application method and recommendations for use
It is applied with a brush, roller, airbrush or using airless or pneumatic spraying devices. In this case, the material consumption ranges from 60 to 100 g/m for a single-layer coating.
Before using EP-057 primer, the surface to be treated should be prepared: cleaned of dust, dirt, rust and oils, and then sanded and degreased with a solvent. Immediately before application, thoroughly stir and, to achieve the required viscosity, dilute with white spirit, solvent or a mixture of these substances (1:1). If a film coating has formed on the surface of the EP-057 primer, it must be carefully removed before use. When priming a wooden surface, it is first well dried and sanded. It is worth considering that the temperature of any surfaces to be coated should not be below +5 °C. The EP-057 soil coating is resistant to temperature changes in the range from −45 to +60 °C. The primer is a quick-drying substance. Therefore, the skin is not salted during processing.
EP-057 should be stored in a tightly closed, impenetrable container. It is necessary to protect it from precipitation and direct sunlight. Painting work with EP-057 primer should be carried out in a well-ventilated area. To prevent the substance from getting on your hands, you need to wear special rubber gloves. Primer EP-057 is a flammable substance. Therefore, it is not recommended to store it near sources of possible fires.
