Description of technical characteristics and nuances of using GF-021 soil

In order for the painting or enamel coating of structures made of ferrous metals and surfaces to be of high quality, and the decor to last a long time, it is necessary to properly prepare the surfaces. This means that the use of primers is mandatory. Among them, primer GF 021 occupies not the least place. Below are the characteristics of the substance, technical parameters and application features.

Primer GF-021

Description of primer GF-021

GF-021 is a liquid based on alkyd varnish with the inclusion of solid particles. The composition and technical characteristics are regulated by state standards. Main soil components:

  • alkyd varnish;
  • driers;
  • minerals;
  • stabilizers;
  • pigments;
  • corrosion inhibitors;
  • other additives.

The soil will not be absorbed even into the most porous substrates, including wood. After applying the primer to the surface, a layer of film is formed to protect the material being processed from external factors.

Priming technology

In order to get the most positive result, it is necessary to use the material correctly and follow a certain priming technology. Otherwise, there will be no benefit from using the product and it may even harm the surface being treated.

Preparation

Before you start priming, you will first need to thoroughly clean the surface of dust, dirt and then degrease it. If such a need arises, the existing rust stains are removed. To do this, you should use a special sanding mesh or sandpaper. Then the surface is washed with plenty of water, dried and again covered with a layer of degreaser. The primer can be applied to the surface no later than six hours after completion of the preparatory work. If you carry out the work later, then during this time a thin layer of corrosion will have time to form on the surface, which will be invisible to the human eye.

Areas of use

It is advisable to use a primer mixture on various types of surfaces. This is explained by a subsequent decrease in the consumption of paint and varnish material per 1 m2. Can be used independently without applying another coating or to prepare the surface for further processing.

It is possible to use GF-021 primer on metal, wood, plastic, concrete, as well as on plywood, MDF and chipboard. Applied to prevent corrosion. It has antifungal and moisture-resistant properties, which is very important when processing metal products, for example, when painting a car. Due to its resistance to temperature changes, the primer can be applied outdoors.

Storage conditions

It is necessary to store in a basic container, maintain the humidity level to 80%, and keep out of direct sunlight. Freezing of the composition is only possible down to -20°C. Under such conditions, the shelf life will be two years.

Security measures

Due to the solvent content in GF-021, the composition has a detrimental effect on the human body with its toxicity, so the use of personal protective equipment is a necessary measure. It is worth protecting the skin, mucous membranes, and respiratory organs.

Be sure to wear goggles, a respirator, gloves, and clothing that fits tightly to the body so that accidental contact of the primer with the skin is unlikely. During priming work, it is recommended to wear special protective overalls.

The soil is highly flammable. Fire safety measures are provided. It is prohibited to use any fire near the mixture (cigarettes, lighters). To reduce the amount of toxic fumes, artificial (hoods) and natural ventilation (opening all doors and windows) is provided. If the mixture comes into contact with the skin, the latter should be washed with soapy water.

After complete drying, the primer has no harmful effects on the body and is absolutely safe.

Characteristics of the solvents used

Petroleum solvent is intended for pentafalium paints and oil-based enamels. The substance belongs to the group of highly volatile materials and has a strong dissolving effect on paints and varnishes. The solvent evaporates without any foreign odors. During the mixing process, the solvent is added in small portions, gradually.

Solvent solvent

This product can be stored for up to 1 year, provided that the factory container is hermetically sealed and the room temperature does not go beyond -40 to +40 °C. Work with solvent outdoors using personal protective equipment. If the product gets on your skin, wash it off immediately with soapy water.

The second popular solvent for GF-021 is white spirit, suitable for diluting oil, alkyd and pentaphthalic primers, paints, drying oils or enamels. The product degreases the base.

Mix white spirit slowly and gradually. Store for up to 3 years in a closed container at a temperature of -40 – +40 °C. They also work with it with gloves and avoid getting the substance on the skin. You will need a respirator and safety glasses to protect yourself from the negative effects of the composition.

White Spirit

Do not inhale vapors from the solvent, keep it away from fire and follow the rules of protection!

Basically, white spirit is produced in glass or plastic containers of different volumes: 0.25 - 1 cubic. dm. Externally, the solvent has a slightly yellowish tint, that is, the substance is almost colorless. The oily liquid has a characteristic kerosene odor. It is homogeneous in consistency, without impurities and traces of separation.

Certificate of conformity

The law obliges the manufacturer to attach certificates to each batch of products confirming its authenticity and compliance with all quality characteristics specified in GOST 25129-82. Additionally, a quality certificate and a hygiene certificate are attached.

You can download the certificate of conformity for the GF-021 primer below for free.

Features of use

Before priming, you need to prepare the soil. If you bought ready-made material, you just need to mix it, and if the instructions for use indicate diluting it first, then use solvents. To dissolve the primer, white spirit is most often used, in an amount of no more than a quarter of the volume of the primer.

You can work with the primer at a temperature not lower than 5 degrees. Also, priming should only be done in a well-ventilated area, since the priming material has a specific odor and is toxic, so for safety reasons, you need to work using a respiratory mask, gloves, and plastic goggles because toxins are dangerous to the skin and mucous membranes.

Application of primer GF 021

After working with the material, you need to sand the primer so that the paint lays down in an even thin layer, without defects. The soil is quick-drying; according to the specifications, it can dry no more than a day at normal room temperature.

Padding

The entire priming process is carried out in two stages:

  • surface preparation;
  • applying primer.

Preparation

A properly prepared surface can limit the finishing process to applying a primer mixture to the metal without subsequent painting. This is due to the pleasant, smooth, uniform coating from GF-021.

  1. The metal must be completely cleaned, traces of rust, dirt, dust, oil must be removed, and the old layer of paint must be removed using sandpaper or a sander.
  2. Get rid of possible protrusions on the metal, burrs, and grooves.
  3. Inside the room, door and window openings must be covered with film or construction tape.

Application of primer

You can prime using well-known painting tools - brush, roller, spray gun. It is possible to use rolling and spraying of the mixture in an electric field with static voltage.

If everything is clear with brushes and a roller, then the last method involves using a pump and a construction gun connected to a power source (outlet, 220V). The primer receives el. charge, and then sprays. Soil consumption with this method is minimal. The method is good for treating hidden places with difficult access (for example, heating radiators), priming large surfaces.

Using a spray gun

With pneumatic spraying, compressed air is supplied to the sprayer from a high-pressure compressor, and the primer is pushed out of the device nozzle under pressure. Pneumatic spraying gives a thickened layer when applied; priming is possible in one go. Rolling is pouring soil over a surface. Used for small surfaces with the possibility of subsequent drainage of the mixture from them.

How to dilute

The correct solution to the issue of diluting GF-021 would be to refer to the instructions for use. It is necessary to dilute when the viscosity standards deviate from the required ones.

Standard solvent set:

  • White Spirit;
  • solvent;
  • turpentine solution;
  • xylene;
  • for electric spraying solvents RE-3V, 4V.

The amount of solvent added should not exceed more than 25% of the total volume of the mixture (for example, for 100 liters of soil we add no more than 25 liters of thinner). After adding the thinner, mixing is carried out using a drill and a special stirrer attachment.

Mode of application

Before priming work, the surface of the metal or wood is cleaned of contaminants (dust, dirt, etc.). When working with metals, they are cleaned of corrosion; it is recommended to do this using rust converters, which, when dry, form a special film that reduces material consumption when painting.

Next, the surface is degreased. To do this, use gasoline or acetone. But remember that when applied to a surface larger than 1 m² in an enclosed area, these compounds may ignite. The primer is applied to the degreased surface only after 6 hours, otherwise there is a risk of rust reappearing. Before covering with a layer of soil, the tree must be plastered.
