AK-511 enamel must be diluted with a solvent before application. You can buy road paint complete with a thinner in order to give the solution the required working viscosity specified in the technical documentation. According to GOST R 52575-2006, AK-511 is equipped with a prescription solvent.

After adding the solvent, the mixture must be thoroughly mixed for at least 10 minutes.
It is advisable to apply markings on a dry road surface, free of dust and dirt. The recommended application temperature ranges from plus 5 to plus 30 degrees with a relative air humidity not exceeding 85%. The markings are applied using special road equipment using the air spray method. In some cases, the use of a roller and brush is applicable. Reflective glass beads are distributed over the enamel laid in several layers under pressure within 5 seconds from the moment the enamel is sprayed. In the absence of special equipment, it is permissible to pre-mix reflective glass beads directly into the enamel solution. If these recommendations are followed, the average service life of the coating is one year. Safety of AK-511 enamel
AK-511 enamel is a toxic coating.
When working with AK road paint, the use of personal protective equipment and rubber gloves is required. Do not spray enamel near open flame sources. Storage of AK-511 enamel
AK-511 enamel has a guaranteed shelf life in unopened original packaging of at least 6 months from the date of production. If the warranty period has expired, then the enamel must be checked for the relevant standard requirements. If the tests are positive, it can be used for road markings.

Color palette

The intended purpose of AK-511 paint and the production technology described in GOST do not suggest colors other than matte white.

To apply special colored road lines, a related composition, AK-511 Sprinter, is used.

It is allowed to add red, orange, yellow and black pigments to this enamel.

Composition and features

AK-511 paint is an enamel based on an acrylic copolymer, which is combined with modifying additives. The latter include solid particles of color (pigment). Along with this enamel there are xyol and toluene, which act as solvents.

Among the features of the paint are the following:

  • remains visible to drivers when the road is illuminated at night;
  • dries within half an hour;
  • adheres well to surfaces (asphalt, concrete, etc.);
  • good wear resistance;
  • maintains integrity during temperature changes.

The enamel contains special glass beads that provide road markings with reflective properties. Moreover, after drying, the paint forms a semi-matte, uniform film on the asphalt.

Ask a Question

Basically, enamel is produced in white. Yellow, red and orange shades are also available, which have a limited area of application. In addition, this material is also available in black, used to paint over old markings.

If necessary, during production the composition is mixed with other pigments, which make it possible to obtain the desired shades. This material imposes strict requirements for storage and transportation. In particular, it is important to maintain the temperature regime and the specified humidity level.

Application technique

Marking must be applied in dry weather with humidity not exceeding 85%.

The recommended air temperature is from 5 to 30 degrees Celsius. The base should be as clean as possible from dirt, debris and dust.

Dilute the paint with acetone, toluene, butyl acetate or other substances specified in the instructions. The share of solvent is up to 15%. The use of gasoline, kerosene and water is prohibited. It is necessary to stir the paint until complete homogeneity is achieved.

If it is necessary to pause work, the container with the dye is tightly closed, and then stirred again, achieving uniform distribution of the dry residue throughout the entire volume of the mixture.

For manual application, use a roller or brush. If painting is done using a sprayer, the latter is kept at a distance of 0.2-0.3 m from the road surface.

The choice of paint supply mode depends on the brand of equipment. The marking is applied in 1-2 layers.

The approximate material consumption is 0.4-0.6 kg/m2. If necessary, glass beads are added to the composition - 0.3 kg/1m2.

After applying the markings, the roadway can be used within 30 minutes. If the air temperature is high enough, the coating will dry even earlier.

Toluene is used to remove paint residues from equipment.

Paint application conditions

Road marking paint AK-511 is applied at air temperatures of 5-35 ° C, with air humidity less than 85%. Before application, the road surface is prepared. It is dried, cleaned of sand, dirt and stains of grease and oil.

The paint is tested for viscosity. The CM is thoroughly mixed. If the material has a thick consistency, then a solvent of category “P-5A” is used. An additive in the form of quartz sand with a grain size of 0.3 mm will increase the wear resistance of the dye. In this case, the proportion of the additive to the paint mass should be 5-10%.

Road markings are applied using specialized equipment - an airless sprayer. Hand sprayers, rollers and brushes are used.

Reflective granules increase the light reflection characteristics of the coating. They are applied after a maximum of 10 seconds on top of the enamel.

If the markings on the road surface are applied in compliance with all instructions, then all the performance indicators proclaimed by the manufacturer will be guaranteed by them. But if the conditions are violated, then the period of use of the dye is also reduced. For example, road markings should not be applied in conditions of high humidity or on wet asphalt.

Storage conditions and precautions

The paint retains its quality for 6 months in the temperature range from -30 to +40 degrees.

What you should pay special attention to:

  1. AK-511 belongs to substances with the third hazard class. This means that the material is toxic and unsafe. The maximum permissible concentration of the product in the air is 150/50 mg/m3
  2. While working, be sure to use personal protective equipment - a respirator or gas mask, gloves or special protective pastes
  3. Avoid contact with fire
  4. To extinguish a paint fire, use foam or sandblasting fire extinguishers or water and asbestos cloth.
