Legendary glue Moment: what, from what and for what

Where can I apply glue?

Moment epoxy adhesive consists of two compounds, when mixed, a reaction occurs leading to the adhesion of the following materials: glass and crystal, earthenware and porcelain, wood, metal and its various alloys, brick. Stone, marble, leather and more.

The range of bonding materials is so wide that this adhesive composition is called universal.

Epoxy adhesive has proven itself well when gluing various metal alloys, concrete, and stone. Excellent bonding of plastic and its derivatives, organic glass, polyamide, polycarbonate.

And what is important is that it adheres well to materials of different chemical compositions: wood and glass, ceramics and leather, plastic and glass.

In addition to its adhesive functions, the Moment epoxy composition also serves as a sealant. You can repair cracks and chips on metal and alloys, as well as on wooden surfaces.

However, Moment is not omnipresent, there are limitations to its use:

  • rubber
  • Teflon
  • silicone

Technical Parameters of Epoxy Adhesive

Moment epoxy adhesive contains a derivative of epoxy resin, which allows the epoxy composition to firmly bond parts and have an unbreakable, strong seam.
Very often this type of adhesive composition Moment is called cold welding.

Main technical characteristics

  • The color is transparent, but if you apply it in a thick layer it is slightly grayish, the color of the glue does not turn yellow in the sun.
  • Does not have a pungent odor.
  • The most favorable conditions for working with glue are humidity no more than 65%, air temperature in the range from +10 to +30 degrees Celsius.
  • Thermal stability of the adhesive trace is up to +60 degrees Celsius with an average load on the seam and up to +120 degrees with no load.
  • Cold resistance of the seam from 0 to +30 degrees
  • Initial hardening 20-40 seconds, hardening 5 minutes, maximum adhesion of surfaces 2 hours.

In the instructions for use, the company guarantees that moisture is not harmful to the adhesive joint; it also performs well when exposed to household chemicals, various alkalis and oil compounds.

The hardened glue can be painted and can be painted with any type of household dye.

The hardened epoxy adhesive composition does not change in volume, therefore it does not deform or change the size of the filled space.

Glue storage

Factory containers are used to store the glue. When pouring into other containers, polymerization and loss of material properties may occur. The manufacturer selects container materials that do not react with epoxy glue. Before packaging, dust and other substances are removed from the container. The container is placed in a cool, dark place. The goal is to prevent sunlight from reaching the epoxy adhesive. There should be no sudden changes in temperature and humidity in the storage room. The optimal temperature is 20 degrees. The adhesive is suitable for use throughout its shelf life. If after its completion the glue has not lost its properties, then it can also be used.

Main advantages

  • Rational and convenient application on surfaces. Composition Moment is very plastic and flexible.
  • Economical consumption, when the tube is tightly closed, the epoxy adhesive composition can be used in the future.
  • Mechanical strength; after drying, the seam can be polished, sanded, or machined.
  • The glue can be frozen; after defrosting it does not lose its adhesive properties.
  • Low price. With the great usefulness of using glue, the retail price is quite affordable from 120 to 200 rubles.

The disadvantages include an additional time interval during which it is advisable not to subject the glued product to vibration or movement, for even more reliable adhesion of materials.

Areas of use

Strong adhesion is guaranteed when combining ceramic, wood, porcelain and natural stone surfaces. It is also suitable for glass, leather, metal structures. They restore marble structures. At the same time, the details themselves may not be of the same type, for example, a leather decorative object and a mirror. After drying, the seam does not shrink or stretch, so it is not recommended for use on rubber objects. The adhesive composition is resistant to atmospheric factors and does not allow moisture to pass through.

You can use epoxy glue if necessary:

  • firmly fix metal or concrete;
  • correct the situation with fabric surfaces;
  • fix the fiberglass;
  • repair cracks on furniture, small dents on cars;
  • eliminate leaks in pipes, tanks, plastic containers;
  • restore the integrity of a porcelain figurine or any other interior detail.

Henkel brand adhesive is indispensable when working with plastic surfaces. It is not relevant when working with polyethylene and polypropylene parts. Contraindicated when working with Teflon or utensils in which food is prepared/served.

Epoxy adhesive composition

The package contains two components.
One compartment contains epoxy resin and certain additives and fillers. In the second compartment there is a hardener for the resin and its modifiers and fillers. Manufacturers produce a minimum volume of 6 ml, which is just enough for a one-time job.

Epoxy resin itself does not glue; it is only through the polymerization process that adhesive properties appear. Polymerization occurs by combining two compounds: epoxy resin and hardener.

As a result, we get a strong, reliable, elastic adhesive seam that is difficult to break or tear. Often, the manufacturer adds a mixing tray to the epoxy adhesive package.

Henkel presents us with a line of Moment adhesives, represented by 10 main types, designed for gluing various surfaces. Let's look at the features of the Moment adhesive ruler. Let’s understand why and what type is more rational to use.

Composition of the product

The series adhesives are presented in two packages. One bottle contains the following components: epoxy resin, modifiers, fillers. The second bottle contains a hardener for epoxy (based on polymercaptan) and modifiers. Usually a 6 ml portion is consumed at a time, but it can be divided if necessary.

Why do you need a two-pack release form? Epoxy resin cures only after the start of the chemical polymerization reaction, which is ensured by the introduction of a hardener. As the components are joined, a high-strength adhesive joint is created that is difficult to break and almost impossible to break. Some types of adhesives come with trays for mixing components.

Moment Super Epoxy Metal

The name speaks for itself - it is designed for gluing metal surfaces. Thanks to certain additives, Moment glue glues both metal and various alloys. This type worked well when gluing marble and wood.

A reliable seam, and when sealing holes, epoxy glue Moment does not expand or deform it.

This type of glue is designed specifically for gluing metal products, pipes, tanks, containers, and successfully helps in repairing cracks in water and sewer pipes.

Scope of application

Two-component epoxy adhesive Moment is a transparent plastic composition produced in two packages for further mixing. In repairs and construction, it is called universal: indeed, the product can be used for the following materials:

  • metal,
  • tree,
  • ceramics,
  • leather,
  • porcelain,
  • glass,
  • faience,
  • crystal,
  • marble,
  • brick,
  • pearl,
  • bone,
  • gems.

The adhesive seam will be no less reliable when using Moment on surfaces made of various metal alloys, artificial and natural stone, concrete, fabric, and cork. From synthetic plastics, Moment perfectly glues rigid PVC, plexiglass, polystyrene, polyamide, polycarbonate. It is possible to combine both homogeneous and dissimilar surfaces - for example, ceramics with wood, leather with glass.

The product can quickly repair cracks, dents, and chips when repairing cars, furniture, household items and electronics. It is ideal not only for gluing, but also for sealing products. But there are still restrictions on the type of materials: Moment cannot be used on rubber, polyethylene, silicone, Teflon, polypropylene.

Moment Super Epoxy Formula 5

This epoxy type of Moment is intended for filling cracks, small holes, and dents.
Produced in a syringe with a mixer attachment. Therefore, no additional containers are required for combining the compounds and your hands do not get dirty, which is important.

Very fast drying of 5 minutes is noted, and after 8 hours additional work can be done with the adhesive seam. Grind. Drill, polish.

Varieties

Epoxy glue is available in different volumes with different preparation methods. The most convenient for small household work is a syringe. The presence of additional components in the composition determines the use of the composition to solve specific problems, for example, the super epoxy epoxy moment creates a durable seam that can be painted and polished.

Moment Super Epoxy Transparent

Transparent universal glue. The finished seam remains resistant to solvents, oils, moisture and household chemicals. The required strength can be obtained within an hour after connecting and fixing the parts. The glue is in demand for the reconstruction of porcelain, crystal, earthenware, and glass bases. It can be used to bond fiberglass and plastic surfaces. It seals cracks in walls and floors and hides gaps.

You can remove excess glue from the surface only before it has hardened. In a liquid consistency, excess can be removed with a solvent. After hardening, a scraper will help. The hardening stage takes about 3 minutes.

Available in 6 ml syringes. The resin and hardener are already dosed and you can prepare the mixture by gradually squeezing the components in equal parts from the syringe.

Moment Super Epoxy Metal

Suitable for repairing metal structures and alloys. After the seam has dried, it can be painted, polished, or drilled. At the same time, the reliability of the connection and insulation will remain the same. The adhesive mixture can be used indoors or outdoors. Hardening of the joints can be observed within 5 minutes after application. The adhesive is suitable for objects subject to vibration. The composition is available in separate 6 ml bottles on a blister card.

Before applying glue, the surfaces must be treated with sandpaper and degreased (acetone or gasoline). After preparing the glue, you only have 1-2 minutes to apply it. Afterwards, the composition begins to harden quickly. The connected parts must be compressed tightly, fixed for 2-5 minutes, and left alone for at least 24 hours.

Moment Super Epoxy Formula 1

It features a mixer attachment. It is suitable for pottery, crystal, pearls and gemstones. There are no solvents in the composition, so it hardens quickly. The quality of the result corresponds to cold welding. The finished seam maintains its integrity when exposed to moisture and vibration, and is not afraid of sudden temperature changes.

The mixture is odorless. To prepare the glue, you need to cut off the tip of the syringe and attach the mixer attachment. The composition must be applied to both surfaces and connected. You need to fix the seam for at least a day. After hardening, excess glue can only be removed mechanically.

Moment Super Epoxy Formula 5

A special mixer attachment allows you to mix the components without additional containers and does not require contact with the skin of your hands. You won't need any tools either. The composition is best for working with dents, cracks and chips on surfaces. The composition begins to harden within 5 minutes, and after another 8 hours the finished seam can be polished, drilled and painted. It is with its help that building materials are restored.

Moment Epoxylin 2 in 1

Used as putty. The composition is beige in color, without the addition of solvents. It can be used for working with wood, ceramics, cork, on brick surfaces and plaster, for example:

  • for fixing towel rails and mirrors in the bathroom;
  • repair of spice racks;
  • filling cracks and pores in concrete;
  • furniture restoration;
  • restoring tightness in pipes and heaters (eliminating water leaks).

For gluing, the surfaces can be made rough. The composition can be used at room temperature, but not higher than +25 °C. When gluing large surfaces, the glue must be applied in several points. After filling the cracks, you need to immediately level the surface. Hardening of the layer occurs even under water. Ketone, ethanol or any other solvent is suitable for removing residues. Available in cylindrical containers of 48 g. For storage, it is better to choose places protected from direct sunlight.

Moment Epoxylin Mini

They restore the tightness of blood vessels, fill dents, cracks and chips. After drying and curing, the volume of the applied seam remains virtually unchanged. When gluing parts, glue should be applied to only one of the surfaces. It contains no solvents, so the seam dries quickly.

You need to work with glue in well-ventilated areas. Gloves can be used to protect your hands. The composition should be kept away from children and avoid getting it into the eyes. Not suitable for gluing utensils used for cooking.

Moment Super Epoxylin

Available in a plastic cylindrical tube. Two-component glue. In this case, the containers are located one inside the other. To prepare it, the composition must be kneaded and mixed thoroughly. The result should be plastic and dense at the same time. After hardening, the seam becomes very hard and durable.

Moment Epoxiline Metal

Suitable for metal surfaces and alloys. Before use, you need to cut off the required amount of glue. The remainder should be wrapped in protective film. The product must be kneaded to a homogeneous consistency similar to plasticine with a beige color. Afterwards, the master has 3 minutes to apply putty and connect the parts. The composition hardens within 10 minutes after kneading. The glue can be stored in its original packaging for 2 years in a dry, dark place. After drying, excess Epoxy Metal can only be removed with a scraper.

Moment Epoxylin Duo

Moment Epoxylin Duo is a two-component composition in the form of gray plasticine. It is in demand for sealing pipes and water containers. The glue kneads easily and hardens quickly. You can firmly fasten broken parts, such as a fallen table corner or chair leg. After hardening, the seam is not afraid of exposure to water, solvents and acidic components. Maximum layer strength after 15 minutes. It is better to remove excess glue from the surface before it dries. It can be stored at temperatures above zero. The shelf life is 3 years from the date of issue.

Moment Epoxylin 2 in 1 Moment Epoxylin 48 g

This is a type of adhesive composition based on epoxy resin.
Physically, they are plasticine bars. One block of epoxy. The second is a hardener. Both bars need to be kneaded with your hands, like plasticine in childhood. Mix, after which the polymerization process occurs.

This glue is suitable for smoothing scratches and chips, gluing corners. Dries in 10 minutes, and after 2 hours it has the highest strength. This glue also does not deform the seams and does not change volumes after hardening.

It is very convenient to seal up excess holes. Suitable for various materials. Exception: rubber, Teflon, polyethylene.

Compound

The main component is epoxy resin.

Additional elements are selected depending on technical requirements. For example, adding oils and solvents helps keep the mixture liquid for longer. The joint hardens as soon as they evaporate after application.

Two-part epoxy adhesive is first prepared by mixing epoxy resin and hardener in precise proportions. Components are sold in separate containers.

This must be done immediately before use so that the composition does not have time to harden and become unusable.

Moment Epoxylin Metal Adhesive

glue in the form of plasticine paste, which makes it easy to apply to metal surfaces.

Suitable for gluing metal products and various alloys

  • gland
  • steel, copper, brass and their compounds
  • lead, stainless steel, aluminum and their derivatives
  • tin

Epoxilin Duo glue is a universal glue in an enlarged size. Two masses of 50 grams of adhesive composition. This mixture is considered universal and works with many surfaces.

Super-Epoxylin Cold Welding

With this glue you can not only glue disparate parts, but also mold missing fragments of household products: a broken corner of a table, a missing fragment of a chair leg, a chipped piece of the ebonite handle of a kitchen knife or hatchet.

The required portion of epoxylin is cut off with a knife and kneaded with wet hands. After the mashed composition becomes warm due to the thermochemical reaction that has begun, it is applied to the desired location and leveled, giving it the intended shape. After complete hardening, which occurs after 10 hours, residual roughness can be removed by grinding, polishing or other types of mechanical action.

Useful to know > What is jewelry epoxy resin and how to work with it

Glues any materials and their combinations, except those that are not amenable to wetting, and therefore adhesion, by adhesive components: polypropylene, Teflon, silicone, rubber, polyethylene. Available in a box with five 48 gram glue cylinders.

How to use glue

Due to the fact that the glue hardens very quickly, it is very difficult to remove from the skin of the hands, sometimes it can cause damage to the skin surfaces.
That's why. We work with glue only with gloves. This is the basic requirement. Further instructions for using the glue are very simple and clear: clean the surfaces to be glued from dust, dirt, if necessary, clean with sandpaper, leveling the layers and removing any remaining grease.

Can be treated with compounds that remove fat and sticky layer from the surface.

If there is glue in a syringe, cut off the nozzle and mix the ingredients in equal proportions. If in the form of a paste, mix in a separate container using spatulas.

A very important point: apply glue to the areas to be glued within the first 5 minutes after preparing the Moment.

After 5 minutes, the epoxy glue loses its adhesive properties and will not perform its functions well.

We applied epoxy Moment, fixed and pressed the parts to be glued for 2 minutes. For better joining of the seams, it is necessary to leave it alone for a day.

At this time, it is better not to touch the parts and not check the quality of gluing, otherwise you may end up with a crooked seam.

Excess glue must be removed immediately with acetone, otherwise, when the glue dries, excess drops can only be removed by grinding or mechanical leveling with a file.

Instructions for use

All gluing operations are carried out only with gloves. Glue that gets on your hands is difficult to remove; it hardens instantly and can also cause burns. No special knowledge or skills are required when using the product; the instructions for use are simple:

  1. Clean the surfaces to be bonded. For this purpose, use water, degreasers, paper, sandpaper and other convenient devices. Ultimately, there should be no dirt, dust or grease on the base.
  2. Cut off the tip of the nozzle of the syringe, mix hardener and resin in equal proportions. Usually the kit includes an attached container and a spatula for mixing.
  3. Apply the mixture to both surfaces for 3-5 minutes. After 5 minutes, the epoxy glue will be unusable. Press the parts and fix for 2 minutes.
  4. Leave the product for a day before active use. To improve the quality of the joint, do not move the parts within the specified time, otherwise the seam may turn out uneven. The joint can be sanded and polished after 8 hours.
  5. Excess glue that has come out must be removed immediately. Fresh glue stains can be removed with acetone; dried ones will have to be removed with difficulty mechanically.

Storage and Security

All work with chemicals must be carried out in well-ventilated areas.
Pay special attention to skin surfaces that may come into contact with solutions during the gluing process. Glue can cause allergies, dermatitis and even burns. Wear gloves.

If glue gets into your eyes, you must rinse your vision with plenty of water for at least 5 minutes, and be sure to consult a doctor. Epoxy glue is a universal means for gluing various objects.

However, it is worth remembering that you should not use it for items that come into contact with food and water. Moment glue is disposed of like all ordinary household waste by throwing it into a designated container.

The glue manufacturer guarantees the use of the glue for 36 months, subject to storage from +5 to +30 degrees Celsius.

If you are using a frozen product, first leave it at room temperature for a day and then use the adhesive.
