The optimal paint for the metal doors of your home is a guarantee of the comfort and safety of your home

Businesses are judged by their intentions, and a house by its door. After all, they are a kind of face of the home and can tell a lot about their owners.

Therefore, the requirements for doors when purchasing are high: safety, reliability and presentable appearance. Over time, the new acquisition loses its appearance, and this is where painting the metal entrance doors comes to the rescue.

This process can be done independently, but you should keep in mind that the technology differs from painting a wooden surface and has its own nuances.

Preparatory work

Many people do not know how to beautifully paint an iron door. In fact, everything is simple, the main thing is to comply with simple requirements. One of the rules is the preparation of the canvas.

This is where the process of painting the door begins. The quality of the preparatory work directly determines how well the protective layer will adhere to the canvas.

Preparation is carried out as follows:

  1. Before painting an iron door, all fittings must be dismantled. If this is not possible, then the peephole, handle, decorative elements and numbers should be covered with construction tape.
  2. The old layer of paint (if there was one) is removed. To do this, a metal brush, a grinding machine or special solvents will be useful.
  3. Next, they inspect for the presence of rust. All its manifestations must be etched with acid. You can use a mixture of lemon juice and vinegar.
  4. Dents, scratches and irregularities are puttied. It is better to use automotive putty, apply it in two layers to ensure good adhesion.

This primer should dry well. Usually 4 hours are enough for complete drying. After this you can start painting. There are many types of paints that are used to protect metal doors.

Wood painting

Painting a metal entrance door to match a wood structure requires a special approach. First, you will need to choose a special grater that will help imitate wood. Then paint in two shades: light and dark to imitate the type of wood.

After preparing the metal coating, you can begin painting. Start by applying a light shade. After complete drying, lightly sand, then apply coatings of a darker shade. Without waiting for it to dry, you need to carefully go over it with a rubber float, repeating the pattern of the tree. This will remove some of the dark tone, and the resulting pattern will resemble wood. When the second layer has dried, you need to coat the metal with varnish.

Oil coating

Oil-based paint for iron doors was previously very popular and is now not losing its position.

It has many advantages, which allows it to be used for painting metal surfaces:

  • low cost;
  • the paint is completely ready for use;
  • ease of work;
  • variety of colors;
  • high protective properties.

This coating is very tight and prevents water from reaching the metal. But after a short period of time, about a year, the paint begins to crack, swell, and peel off.

By using a primer you can delay this process, but over time the coating will have to be removed and renewed.

Preparing doors for painting

Before you paint metal doors, you need to carefully prepare them. This is especially true for the front door; it is important not to disturb the aesthetics and the metal itself. The work is carried out in several main stages:

1. The door should be thoroughly washed, dried and degreased. To remove dirt and grease stains, you can use white spirit, nefras or degreaser.

2. In case of secondary painting, you need to remove the old coating using chemicals. Clean areas on the doors where rust has appeared.

3. You can sand the surface of the iron door so that the paint lays down evenly. Thanks to this treatment, a matte finish is often achieved when painting.

4. If cracks and other serious defects are found on the surface of the product, it is advisable to repair them with automotive putty.

5. Before painting directly, you need to cover the apartment number and the peephole with construction tape so as not to paint over these elements.

Important! Before painting, an iron door must be treated with a metal primer, preferably one with anti-corrosion properties.

Iron doors do not require specific pre-treatments before painting. It is enough to remove minimal defects and clean the coating. In this case, the metal case must be motionless relative to the mounted mechanisms.

Acrylic enamels

Water-based coatings are becoming increasingly popular. By adding acrylic binders to them, they can be used to paint metal doors. The film turns out to be quite flexible and durable. Therefore, it will last on the canvas for 5-7 years.

The main advantages of painting a steel door with acrylic paint:

  • affordable price;
  • painting work does not require skills;
  • the coating does not fade in the sun;
  • the paint is scratch and wear resistant;
  • the material does not burn, does not react to high temperatures and frost;
  • good adhesive properties;
  • the paint has no pungent odor and does not contain toxic compounds.

Due to its environmental friendliness, this paint can be used in children's institutions and in homes where there are people with allergies.

The only disadvantage of acrylic enamels is that they give a rather thin, not very rich color. Therefore, painting is carried out in several layers. After drying, the shade may turn out a little darker.

General tips and tricks

All the recommendations that are listed in this section should be studied before you start painting the metal door.

  • To make the color of the door more saturated, it is necessary to paint the surface in two or three layers.
  • To avoid smudges, all paint options when using a spray gun must be applied from top to bottom.
  • Do not install decorative elements and fittings after painting; wait until the surface is completely dry.
  • If you are using spray paint, you must shake it first. It is enough to spend 30-60 seconds on this.

Alkyd based coatings

To protect an external metal door, it is necessary to use a coating that is as resistant to temperatures and moisture as possible, which is also not prone to fading. Otherwise, it will become unusable within a season.

For structures located outdoors, alkyd enamels are suitable: glypthal, melamine, pentaphthalic.

Such paints for steel doors are quite toxic, since in addition to pigments they contain solvents and antiseptics, and various fillers. In addition, they are flammable. Therefore, when painting, it is necessary to take into account safety rules. But after complete drying, the door will have a coating that is not afraid of temperature fluctuations from -50 to +60 degrees. It will reliably protect the metal from corrosion, will be rich in color and shiny.

Nitropaint

Nitro paint is often used to paint steel entrance metal doors. Nitrocellulose enamels have a number of advantages: a wide range of colors, do not dry for long, low price. Immediately after coating, the metal surface has a beautiful glossy finish, but over time the color will fade. Although nitro paint protects the metal from corrosion, it does not last long and is not resistant to external factors.

Be careful when using nitro paint, because it can only be used in a non-residential, well-ventilated area, or better yet, outdoors. The toxicity of the coating will persist until it dries completely.

Epoxy enamels

The basis of this composition is epoxy resin, which is supplemented by an oxidizer or hardener. Before painting a metal door, the surface must be cleaned and dried.

This coating has many advantages:

  • high wear resistance;
  • elasticity of the protective film;
  • good waterproofing qualities;
  • exceptional resistance to chemical factors;
  • mechanical strength;
  • good adhesion to metal.

At the same time, working with epoxy enamels without proper preparation is not very convenient. The components must be mixed immediately before work, and for final drying of the layer, equipment for supplying hot air will be required. Only with such drying will the coating be securely fixed.

Types of paints

The choice of coloring composition and painting method are of great importance, because... How long the door will maintain its integrity and attractiveness largely depends on them. That is why, before deciding how to paint a metal door, it is necessary to take into account factors such as installation location, humidity level and ambient temperature.

The good news is that today there are many options for how and with what to paint your front door. Next, information will be provided about the most effective painting methods, from which you can choose the most suitable one.

Nitroenamel

A simple and effective method of protecting metal from corrosion. The advantages of this paint are that it is easy to apply and dries quickly. At the same time, nitro enamel perfectly protects a metal door from corrosion, which allows the use of paint, including for the treatment of entrance doors.

One of the disadvantages of nitro enamel is its fragility, which is why the coating has to be renewed approximately every 2 years. It is also important to remember that this type of paint is extremely toxic, and therefore nitro enamel must be applied in a well-ventilated area.

Oil paint or PF

Due to the optimal price-quality ratio, oil formulations are the most popular. The main advantages include:

  • They have excellent adhesion to metal.
  • They do not fade for a long time.
  • Protect from ultraviolet radiation.
  • Resistant to mechanical damage.

The downside is that PF takes a long time to dry, which needs to be taken into account if you are going to paint a metal door at home. It is also necessary to pay attention to the quality of the paint itself, since oil compositions are often counterfeited.

Bitumen compounds

Paints made on the basis of bitumen are distinguished by excellent anti-corrosion resistance, however, they do not look very beautiful, which is why they are most often used when covering outbuildings. In addition, they are inexpensive, which in some cases is a decisive factor.

Acrylic water-based paint

Another inexpensive but effective way to protect a metal door from various negative factors. Acrylic paint is non-toxic, quickly applied, and dries almost instantly.

However, water-based compositions do not withstand moisture well and therefore are not recommended for painting structures that will be located outdoors. Acrylic paint is best for indoor painting.

Alkyd enamel

The paint got its name due to the fact that it contains so-called alkyd resins, thanks to which it dries quickly and does not lose its shine for a long time. In addition, alkyd paints do not lose their properties when interacting with moisture and therefore can be used to coat metal doors located outdoors.

Hammer paint

Not so long ago, hammer enamels were used by door manufacturers only when the product was painted in an industrial environment. This was due to the fact that thermal exposure was necessary to fix and dry the material. Enamels are now available for sale, with which you can decorate the structure yourself.

Hammer paint is a composition based on epoxy or alkyd resin, to which powder or small metal flakes have been added. This filler gives the coating interesting decorative characteristics.

Advantages of hammer enamels:

  • relief of the coating, beautiful appearance;
  • high protective properties;
  • the paint adheres well to the metal;
  • the coating can be applied without special surface treatment;
  • when applied in several layers, it masks surface irregularities and defects without putty.

Hammer paints are toxic, this should be taken into account before painting an iron door with your own hands. Also, to obtain a high-quality coating, the room should not be cold and damp.

Features of powder paint

Powder coating doors has a number of advantages:

  • fire safety;
  • high resistance to damage;
  • high environmental safety;
  • attractive appearance.

However, the cost of such a coating is quite high, and it is impossible to apply it at home. The powder is sprayed electrostatically and heated in special chambers with a temperature of 200°C. This is how the powder penetrates the metal structure. After cooling, apply varnish.

Staining with nitro enamel

One of the most popular protective coating options, which has a low cost. Due to the presence of nitrocellulose in the composition, the enamel is durable and provides a durable coating. It's shiny and looks beautiful. But the protective properties of nitro enamels are not very high.

The coating also has other disadvantages:

  • poor adhesion to metal;
  • difficult to apply over the previous coating (when creating several layers, there is a risk of peeling;
  • reacts poorly to temperature changes;
  • with minor mechanical impact, cracks form;
  • the material is flammable.

To create a coating with a sufficiently rich color, you need to paint the door in 4-6 layers, which increases paint consumption and takes a lot of time.

Can I use car paint?

Metal door panels can be painted using automotive aerosols in cans. The method is convenient, since the container for storing the coloring material simultaneously acts as a means for its application. The color range of car paints is varied, so there should not be any difficulties in choosing. The spray-treated surface resists environmental influences, is attractive in appearance, and copes well with temperature changes. Those. the difference in night and day, summer and winter temperatures does not violate the integrity of the layer. The disadvantage of automotive paint compositions may be the price - this option for treating a metal surface is expensive.

Automotive paints

Powder formulations

One of the most successful options for protecting a metal door is the use of powder paint. But decorating the canvas can only be done in an industrial environment or in a special chamber, since in order to fix the material it is necessary for the product to dry in an oven.

And painting a metal entrance door is not an easy task. It occurs due to the grounding of the metal and the attraction of powder particles.

This clever technology allows you to create a uniform protective coating with special characteristics, including:

  • long service life: the coating will protect the door for 10 years;
  • no toxic compounds, high environmental friendliness;
  • excellent resistance to mechanical damage;
  • fire resistance;
  • ability to withstand temperature changes from -50 degrees to +100 degrees.

The color palette of powder paints is very wide, which allows you to create beautiful protective coatings on metal that are resistant to mechanical and atmospheric factors.

Painting methods

Paint not only decorates the door, but also protects it from negative influences. In particular, for example, polymerized paints make it possible to protect the structure from moisture, which can be of great importance if standard steel without galvanized coating was used as the manufacturing material.

For some time now, manufacturers have been covering their products with so-called powder paint , which, among other things, effectively protects the canvas from mechanical damage. Thanks to powder coating, doors are successfully used as entrance doors, since they have an increased level of moisture resistance and are also able to withstand significant temperature changes.

Graphite paint

Such paints have the strongest anti-corrosion properties due to the presence of graphite in the composition. On the one hand, protection is provided by binding components, on the other hand, by the cathodic bond of the metal with carbon. The main “advantages” of graphite paint:

  • resistance to chemicals, water, high humidity;
  • long service life;
  • the coating is not afraid of friction or mechanical impact;
  • heat resistance, resistance to temperature fluctuations;
  • safety, non-toxic.

For additional protection from fire, high temperatures, fires, the structure is treated with fire-resistant compounds before applying paint with graphite filler.

Choosing a painting tool

To understand how to paint an iron door, you need to have an idea of the tools used. The door leaf can be painted using the following tools:

  • paint brush;
  • roller with a container (tub) for the coloring composition;
  • spray gun;
  • aerosol can.

Pay attention to: How to correctly, quickly and beautifully paint different types of wallpaper on the ceiling and walls

Having chosen a processing method, one or another tool or a combination of them is used. Spraying with a spray gun or an aerosol can is a simple method suitable for large surfaces. The advantage will be uniformity, lack of drips and cost-effectiveness. Instead of a spray gun, you can use a roller. Using a roller it is easy to paint large flat surfaces. The bath helps control the amount of coloring composition consumed. But it is difficult to use a roller to treat raised and hard-to-reach areas of the door leaf. A paint brush is suitable for this. But the downside is that the brush is inconvenient to use for large surfaces. The tool leaves hairs and smudges and delays the painting of the product. It is convenient to apply an aerosol from a can, but it is not always possible to calculate the consumption. During operation, it is difficult to control the level of composition remaining in the cylinder.

Painting tools

Coloring rules

A high-quality coating should not have drips or streaks, it should be even. Painting of metal doors should be done with a roller or spray, it depends on the type of paint and varnish.

Before you paint an iron door with your own hands, you should remember that such work always starts from the top. The coating must be applied in a sufficiently thick layer, without gaps.

But “overkill” is also useless. If streaks do form, you should let the paint dry completely and sand them down. Then paint the door again.

The second layer is applied no earlier than after 30-40 minutes, the first should dry well. It will take 6 to 12 hours for the product to dry completely. It is most convenient to paint a metal entrance door that has been removed from its hinges. In this position it is easier to achieve a uniform layer. The hinges also need painting after sanding. Painting of iron doors should be carried out in a room where it is not damp, not cold, there is no rain, and there is little dust. Since most paints are toxic, it is important to take care of ventilation. Painting a metal door is an inexpensive and reliable way to protect it from corrosion and provide the product with an attractive appearance. The main thing is to choose high-quality paint and carry out repair work according to all the rules.

Preparing for painting

The first step in any construction process is preparation. In this case, this means that the surface must be well cleaned, wiped and dried before painting.

If possible, remove the handle, peephole, house or apartment number and any decorative elements present or cover them with masking tape.

If this is a secondary painting of metal entrance doors, then the previous layer of paint should be removed. You can use special paint-dissolving liquids, or you can clean it manually or mechanically using a sanding machine.

Inspect the product for rust. If there is any, remove it completely with a wire brush or acid, for example, mixing vinegar with lemon. Uneven surfaces on the door should be smoothed out using automotive putty.

Sand the surface again to a matte finish for better adhesion to the paint. Degrease the prepared door and paint it with a layer of primer. It will take 3-4 hours for it to dry completely.

Even more options

So, we are convinced that there are many options for what paint and how to paint a metal front door! And we haven't listed everything. For example, do not forget about dyes in aerosol cans. With their help, you can turn a faceless old door into a bright art object.

It is worth remembering about fireproof materials, which are widely used in the decoration of residential premises. Why not use luminescent paint for the door design? It will be unusual and original: a magical glowing door in the darkness of the entrance or the twilight of the street.

It would be equally useful to consider an option such as anti-vandal paint for metal, especially for private households, garages and entrances.

You can also find out how to paint a metal fence, in case your plans include updating all metal decorative elements.

Review of paint and varnish compositions for metal

The modern market offers a wide range of compositions for painting metal surfaces. In addition to the entrance to the premises, doors to utility and utility rooms are installed in a private house. Depending on the purpose, surfaces can be painted with different compositions. The logical conclusion of an apartment renovation is updating the front door. It is the “calling card” of the house.

Names of colors for painting metal doors

In this case, enamels are used, which not only protect the canvas and the box, but also give the canvas an attractive appearance. For utility room doors, the emphasis is on the protective properties of the coloring material. The peculiarity of the entrance metal group is that the canvases operate in two modes, outdoors and indoors, so the coating must withstand a fairly large range of temperature changes. An important point is the resistance of the coating to mechanical stress and abrasion.

Types of paints and varnishes

The application of a protective coating depends on the purpose of the metal door.

Color options for painting doors like wood

For utility rooms, you can use more affordable enamels. For the main door, compositions are chosen that can update its appearance. Since paint consumption is small, more expensive, reliable compositions with a decorative effect can be used.

In total, paint and varnish products can be divided into:

  1. Powder paints that are diluted with solvents.
  2. Water-based paints using pigments and fillers.

  3. Enamels whose ingredients are mixed with solvents. This category includes paints based on cellulose nitrate (nitro-enamel) and acrylic compositions, which include polymers (acrylic, latex), alcohol-containing ingredients and acids.

Alkyd paints have a low threshold for high temperatures (80⁰C), and they have a characteristic pungent odor. Acrylic, from an environmental point of view, is safer, they are resistant to high temperatures (120⁰C), and there is no pungent odor.

Alkyd paint for painting metal doors

There are also two-component compositions based on epoxy resins and polyurethane compositions. Mix immediately before use. They are more used for painting technical rooms with high humidity and thermal loads.

To paint metal doors, mainly water-based enamels or those containing solvents are used. It is not recommended to paint iron doors with conventional oil-based paints, despite their affordable cost, due to their fragility.

Packaging and packaging form of paint and varnish products:

  • powder formulations, for example, silver;
  • packaged in tin cans, plastic buckets;
  • are produced in the form of aerosols (cans with a spray).

Properties

Painting a metal entrance door is an excellent way to finish the main structural material, which can guarantee adequate protection from the negative influence of the environment, and also a way to give a beautiful and stylish look to the product. The choice of paint and varnish material should be approached with all responsibility, because an incorrectly chosen coating will not provide the required degree of protection and will soon begin to fall off the surface (which is undesirable from an aesthetic point of view).

At the moment, many alloys are used in the manufacture of doors, which are completely different in design and physical and chemical composition. The main task of the consumer from the presented criteria will be the correct choice of material with good adhesion and compatible with the existing type of door material.

The right material helps not only to transform the product externally, but also:

  • Provides excellent protection against moisture.
  • Corrects imperfections on the metal surface.
  • It will fill all the voids that exist in the material.
  • Helps prevent corrosion formation.

But first, let’s look at how door leaves differ from each other.

Features of painting a metal door with your own hands

Painting a metal door with a powder composition
You can paint the outside of the door if the weather permits (relevant for a private home). The work is carried out in the following sequence:

  1. Preparing the door. All elements that should not be processed are removed or sealed with plastic film or masking tape.
  2. Eliminate dust and dirt. Grease stains are removed with white spirit. It is better to remove the old layer of paint. To do this, use a metal brush or chisel. You can remove rust using sandpaper.
  3. Surface treatment with abrasive material. This will improve the adhesion of the finishing material to the base.
  4. Degreasing the canvas. Without this procedure, the paint will peel off quite quickly. For processing, use special compounds for metal doors or white spirit.
  5. Repairing defects. Chips, cracks, and dents are removed using automotive putty. After the solution has dried, the surface of the door is treated with fine-grained sandpaper and wiped with a damp cloth.
  6. Priming the base. This procedure is necessary to create maximum adhesion of the paint to the canvas. It is recommended to use an aerosol primer or liquid used on metal damaged by rust.
  7. Application of finishing material. The most convenient way of painting is an aerosol can. First, it is shaken to achieve a uniform consistency of the substance inside. It is better to apply paint from top to bottom: this way, you can avoid the appearance of drips. The can is kept at a distance of 30 cm from the surface.

Apply paint in 2-3 layers. In this case, you need to ensure that each previous one is completely dry before applying the next one. The interval between repeated applications is 1-2 hours. You should not paint a metal door in winter or in damp weather. After applying the last layer, the structure should dry for 4-5 hours.

If you need additional protection of the canvas, giving it shine, or increasing the depth of color, you can use acrylic varnish in the form of an aerosol. It dries in 2 hours. After painting is completed, all removed fittings and decorative elements are reinstalled.

Execution of work

Before starting work, you must carefully read the instructions for using the selected hammer effect paint.

First of all, preparatory work should be done - clean the surface of oil and grease stains and dirt.

To clean metal surfaces you will need:

  • rags;
  • acetone or white spirit;
  • brush;
  • detergent.

The next stage is cleaning and surface treatment. The process is not complicated, and all you need to do is a brush or sandpaper.

The essence of the work is to remove the old paint and deep rust remaining on the surface. The work is performed to prepare the cleaned areas of the metal for better adhesion of hammer paint to it

What exactly to paint with - a spray gun, a brush or a roller, there is not much difference, but in any case it is necessary to strictly follow the technology for performing the work. The optimal temperature for painting is 5-30°C with air humidity not exceeding 85%. It is necessary to paint in 3-4 layers before applying the next one, allowing time for the previous one to dry.

Nitrocellulose enamels

An inexpensive and quick way to refine your front door, while simultaneously making it stronger and more durable, is to coat the surface with nitrocellulose enamel . This specific paint is based on cellulose nitrate and dries quickly to a beautiful, shiny finish.

Unfortunately, the protective characteristics of such enamels are rather weakly expressed and on metal surfaces they rather serve as decoration. This is due to the following specific properties:

  • Poor adhesion to metals, requiring additional surface treatment with primer compounds.
  • Low resistance to weather factors and sudden temperature changes.
  • Weakness to mechanical and chemical influences - the coating cracks easily.
  • High fire hazard.
  • Low saturation of the composition - to obtain the desired effect, you have to apply 6 or more layers of enamel.

It is also difficult to apply the composition to old coatings or to dried layers of the same nitrocellulose enamel - such a procedure often ends with all the paint peeling off from the surface being treated.

How to paint a metal door

All of the above types are suitable for the steel materials from which the blades are made. It remains to decide on the aesthetic effect, which varies depending on the paint composition used.

Powder paints

Serebryanka (so named for the color of the powder) is a paint based on aluminum powder, crushed to a powder state.

Existing powder paint colors for metal doors

Depending on the grain size of the powder, the texture differs. When pigment is added, it becomes bronze, golden with a characteristic metallic sheen. The powder is mixed with synthetic drying oil, bitumen varnish (usually BT-577). There are two main types of PAP-1 powder; PAP-2, they differ in grain fractions. If you dilute silver with heat-resistant varnish, it can withstand high temperatures, but for doors, ordinary synthetic drying oil is quite sufficient. Depending on the application method (brush, roller, spray gun), one portion of powder is mixed in the ratio: 1 powder component to 4; 5 portions of solvent.

Preparing the necessary material for coloring involves diluting the powder and thoroughly mixing the mixture. Currently, quite a lot of compositions for working on metal have appeared, with a wide selection of colors, but traditional silverware firmly holds its position.

Serebryanka, paint advantage:

  1. Low cost.
  2. The composition is universal, suitable for all types of surfaces, including brick and concrete. Thus, it is possible to cover not only doors, but also individual facade parts.
  3. Good adhesion, adhesion to metal, which creates a stable protective layer.

    The process of painting a metal door

  4. Low toxicity.
  5. The paint is easy to prepare and applied to the surface in any way.
  6. The warranty period is more than 7 years.
  7. The aesthetic appeal of the coating with a characteristic metallic sheen.

Due to these advantages and low price, it can be used for painting both the central entrance area and utility rooms. The silver lining dries in 4-5 hours.

Hammer paint

The most popular coatings for metal include hammer enamels for metal. They also contain aluminum flakes of a larger fraction.

It is sold ready-made, as it has a more complex multi-component composition. It additionally includes:

  1. Aluminum ingredients. The flakes give a characteristic texture to the material, similar to tapping on the surface with a hammer. The powder adds a metallic shine.
  2. Crushed glass adds texture to the surface.
  3. Resistance to cracking and adhesion are provided by resin additives (alkyd, silicone).
  4. The protective film and gloss are a result of the addition of technical wax.

Existing hammer paint color options

Like silver paint, hammer paint is suitable for all types of surfaces. You need to paint a metal entrance door with a composition that is intended for this type of surface, since it contains components intended specifically for a steel door.

This is what hammer paint looks like in a can

The positive side is that the paint sets in about 40 minutes, and dries after a couple of hours. Warranty period - 8 years. A significant part of mass-produced metal doors are coated with hammer paint. It is sold in cans, buckets, and cans.

Nitroenamel, alkyd-based paints

Quick painting of a metal door can be done using nitro paint. Its main advantage is quick drying, within half an hour. The designation “NC” indicates that the composition is based on nitrocellulose obtained by technical treatment with nitric acid. The main solvent for it is acetone-containing compounds (No. 647 and others). Manufacturers offer a fairly wide range of colors; it fits well on a metal surface, forming a beautiful shiny layer.

The main disadvantages include a rather strong toxic odor, so you need to wear a mask when working. The paint is not highly elastic. With minor impacts, it may peel off the surface. Alkyd compounds create a fairly stable coating on a metal surface, they are quite plastic. The composition contains alcohols and acids, so the paint is toxic. When painting, protectants should be used.

Catalog of nitro enamel colors for painting metal doors

Resins and oils create a protective layer, but under the influence of sunlight it becomes thinner, which can lead to cracks. The dyeing process is carried out again after 1, 2 years. Mainly packaged in tin cans.

Acrylic-based metal paints

Unlike nitro enamel and alkyd paint, these compositions are water-based and therefore non-toxic and have no pungent odor. They appeared on the construction market not so long ago, but have already gained popularity among consumers and builders. These are complex water-polymer mixtures with the addition of various pigments.

They create a stable protective layer on the surface that is resistant to cracking and does not fade in the sun. Acrylic-based polymers are impervious to moisture.

The only thing you need to pay attention to is that the formation of the protective film takes almost a month, but the paint sets quickly.

The first time after application, you need to use the door carefully. After complete drying, a beautiful, durable coating is formed. It should be noted that this series has a bright, wide, fade-resistant color palette.
