Psychologists have found that one of the most favorable colors for humans is blue. Shades of this color are often found in nature, such as sunny skies and sea water. It is no coincidence that this palette is believed to have a beneficial, restorative and even calming effect on the human body. Aggression, fears and excessive activity are alien to this tone. Therefore, a calm psychological climate often prevails in apartments with a light blue interior. The blue stretch ceiling, symbolizing, first of all, heavenly shades, contributes greatly to this.
What colors can glossy stretch ceilings be?
Color plays such an important role in design that you need to be more than meticulous in choosing it. The fact is that the suspended ceiling is installed for a long time, so the color design will become the background for the wallpaper, which is changed much more often. If you suddenly want to radically change the color of the walls, it will be better if the ceiling palette fits into this new solution.
Plain canvases
The first thing to consider is a white, monochromatic glossy ceiling. It is universal because it can be combined with any other color and suits absolutely any style. If the ceiling in the room is low and the windows are small, then a white solution will be the best. Properly placed lamps will make a small room much lighter, more comfortable and even seem larger.
Not everyone can use flashy tones; this requires the ability to combine such a design with the rest of the room’s decoration. Usually such paintings awaken feelings, but over time they can become boring.
Drawings and prints
Anyone who would like to see something original on the ceiling may be interested in options with prints. The artistic execution of such paintings is amazing; it can be the sky with clouds, a star extravaganza of space, or flowers: the drawing can be single or in the form of a full-size image.
Wallpaper color
Wildflower colors, for example, will go well with blue. These can be orange, yellow, crimson, burgundy shades. Just look at a picture of a flowering field with a horizon (or a similar photo), and the choice of color will come by itself.
Now we combine color with patterns to improve the quality of the room. So, a low ceiling will be visually enlarged by vertical stripes, and they should not be too thick. A narrow space can be expanded by various kinds of geometric shapes, in particular rhombuses, triangles, and zigzags. In small rooms it is better not to choose too rich a color, and most importantly, large objects, such as flowers. They will visually take up part of the space.
In a small room, a combination of a plain wall with a surface covered with wallpaper in a small, unobtrusive pattern, for example, the same flowers, would look good. The only main point here will be the choice of color. In a small room with a blue ceiling, it is best to choose very light, but not too saturated warm colors. It can be pale yellow, beige, light orange. In this case, the room will look larger, and most importantly, more comfortable. If you want to make some kind of accent, you can take wallpaper for one wall (preferably not the largest one) with geometry or a large flower (fruit, etc.).
Photo wallpaper. This option will also look good with a blue ceiling if you choose the right pattern. Suitable, for example, are photos of an evening city, nature with ponds, or photos in retro style (sepia, black and white).

Lilac stretch ceiling. Design nuances
Advantages and disadvantages of Russian-made stretch ceilings
Lilac stretch ceilings will help visually increase the space in the room. If you choose a glossy texture for decoration, which creates light reflectivity, you can visually make the room much larger. Single-tier ceilings are often decorated in one shade. The location of lighting sources is essential. An excellent option for decorating a single-color coating is photo printing. It looks very interesting and unusual. If you use illumination of the deep areas of the tension covering, you can achieve an unusual light play. Multi-tiered lilac stretch ceilings are a great choice for high rooms. Such structures “take away” the height of the room, so installing them in rooms with low ceilings is not recommended
The use of different colors on the tiers of a stretch ceiling is an original and effective design option. If you have chosen a multi-tiered stretch ceiling, you need to remember an important design rule. The highest tier should be the lightest
It’s great if properly selected lighting is located between the levels. You can opt for lamps or LED strip.
Which wallpaper should you choose?
The interior, whose design is dominated by lilac color, cannot go unnoticed. However, do not forget that the design should look harmonious. One of the main conditions is to choose the right wallpaper.
For the ceiling, it is advisable to choose wallpaper close to the base color or contrasting tones. For different shades of lilac, wallpaper in white, beige, silver or golden tones is suitable. You can also experiment with brown and light green shades. The combination of lilac with dark purple or white looks impressive.
Kitchen Design
For the kitchen it is better to choose a lilac shade close to pink. This design will create an atmosphere of comfort and warmth.
If the kitchen windows face south, it is always sunny and warm, you can pay attention to lilac-blue tones
You don't have to choose just one color. Smart combinations and combinations of tones will help decorate your kitchen and make the design stylish and original.
Living room design
The living room, decorated in lilac tones, looks luxurious and elegant. Multi-tiered stretch ceilings would be an excellent choice for this room. You can complement the design of the ceiling surface with photo printing with a beautiful image that matches the overall style of the room.
You can choose any shade for the hall. It all depends on the preferences of the owner. If it’s difficult to make a choice, a universal option is a white and lilac stretch ceiling. This color combination is suitable for any style and will always look appropriate.
Bedroom design
Light tones of lilac soothe and set you up for proper rest and sleep. Therefore, this is a great option for decorating a bedroom. It is better to give preference to matte or satin fabric. Such textures are more appropriate for decorating a bedroom than glossy ceilings.
If you decide to use photo printing, it is better to choose a small pattern or ornament. Three-dimensional images will look better in the living room or kitchen, and in the bedroom nothing should distract from proper rest. A lilac ceiling in the bedroom will certainly create an atmosphere of romance and comfort.
Decoration of the nursery
Lilac tones will perfectly decorate the room of a child of any age. To decorate a room for infants, you can use any shade. If we are talking about an older child, then this shade is more suitable for girls. You can complement the decoration of the canvas with photo printing depicting flowers. The little princess will be delighted with such a room.
Bathroom design
Lilac ceilings will help visually visualize the space in the bathroom or toilet. Also, they will add notes of romance and sensuality. An excellent choice is the glossy texture of the canvas. Such ceilings look great in combination with pink, gray or white tiles.
Lilac stretch ceilings are a wonderful combination of beauty and comfort. They will be a wonderful decoration for any room.
Red ceiling
Features and use of white glossy stretch ceilings in the interior
This color is more suitable for extravagant, courageous people. It symbolizes joy and passion. This color can be combined with orange, gold, white, pink tones.
Don't be afraid that the color red will irritate you. In combination with soft blue, it, on the contrary, evokes calm.
When experimenting with colors, do not forget that the wallpaper for the ceiling should be chosen a tone lighter or, conversely, darker.
Turquoise color is a combination of blue and green. The turquoise palette contains different shades, lighter and more saturated, close to one or another “parent” tone. They are all pleasing to the eye, but quite bright, which makes them difficult to fit into the decor. In this article we will show you how to create a harmonious and comfortable room using stretch fabric of this color.
Features of the blue ceiling
The pure heavenly color of the ceiling makes the room bright, spacious and light. For small rooms with poor natural light, a glossy stretch ceiling is ideal. The blue color scheme with a reflective surface creates the illusion of additional volume. On large areas you can experiment with shades, photo printing and multi-levels. In a room located on the sunny side, a blue ceiling will bring coolness and freshness.
The color blue is most often associated with the sky and water, rest and relaxation. Psychologists have long noted the influence of color on a person’s emotional state. A gentle variety of blue tone is calming and at the same time promotes spiritual, mental and poetic activity. In a small child, the color blue activates cognitive abilities and a surge of vitality.
To get the maximum benefit from the positive properties of a blue ceiling, you need to correctly use combinations of shades, styles and other decorative elements in your design.
Modern technology of French ceilings, in contrast to painting or hanging slabs, allows for maximum diversification of the interior.
In the photo of blue suspended ceilings you can see all sorts of shades, photo printing, cloudy and starry skies, shiny and matte surfaces, multi-level structures.
Curvilinear
Designs that use curved lines can be single-level or consist of several tiers. Single-level curved coatings use different textures and colored fabrics soldered together. A multi-level curved ceiling is created by smooth waves, which gives the interior sophistication and divides the space into separate zones. This type of decoration is an ideal solution when
- the width of the room is more than 5 meters, and with the help of a curved ceiling you can install the material without an obvious seam;
- allow you to zone the room and create the necessary accents in the interior;
- their cost is more economical compared to two-level ceilings, which perform the same tasks.
Terms of use
A dark blue stretch ceiling will not be appropriate in all rooms and will be suitable as a ceiling finish. In the bathroom, such a covering needs to be installed only if the area of this part of the house is large enough. Otherwise, it will feel like the ceiling is “pressing” on the person there. If you install a film with a glossy texture, this problem will be solved.
For a bedroom, such decor is almost ideal - you don’t need too much light here and a dark color of the coating will be more than appropriate. In addition, by adding several LEDs to the surface of the structure, you can create a “starry sky” composition, which is one of the best solutions for bedrooms. The flickering of diodes is great for helping you relax and fall asleep.
In the living room, a design with such a canvas may be appropriate if its area is large enough. It is better to choose gloss or satin as a texture, which, due to reflections, will create the effect of visual expansion of the existing space. This effect can be enhanced if a kind of frame made of a material of a lighter shade is placed around the perimeter of the coating.
Films with a glossy surface are better suited for children. However, some children may not respond well to dark colors and may experience mood changes or poor health. Therefore, it is better to choose a different color of canvas for a child’s room. If children want just such a ceiling decor in their room, they can, just like in the bedroom, put together a “starry sky” composition, which will simultaneously serve as a kind of night lamp.
Corridors and hallways usually cannot boast of a large area
Therefore, finishing of this type should also be used with caution here. The best choice is films with a glossy texture and many lamps
Such a design can decorate even the narrowest or cramped spaces, giving it a visually larger volume.
For any room, a good solution would be to install additional decorative lighting. Since any canvas of dark colors “eats up” part of the light in the room, you will need to install a much larger number of lighting fixtures than in the case of lighter coatings, and additional lighting will definitely not hurt here.
Rules for choosing curtains
Curtains can be in the same colors as the wallpaper and repeat the pattern. The color of the fabric or borders can match the upholstery, the color of dishes, accessories, edging of pillows, bedspreads and other interior items.
The photo shows a bedroom design in sky blue tones, which looks fresh due to the large window, white accents and a glossy ceiling that reflects daylight.
To visually correct the perception of the room, contrasting colors are used (bright purple or burgundy curtains make it smaller, while white translucent ones make it larger).
To decorate one window, you can safely combine turquoise and yellow, blue and green, brown and turquoise, brown and white.
To prevent the interior from looking too bright, you need to choose pastel colors (pale yellow, lilac, light green). To accentuate a window in a bedroom or living room, you can make one of the curtains in a contrasting color.
The photo shows greenish-blue liquid wallpaper.
For the kitchen, it is better to choose curtains made of non-flammable fiber and a simple cut.
The photo shows an example of a blue Victorian kitchen with a classic small monochromatic pattern that does not reduce the space of a small kitchen. Blue wallpaper is combined with Roman striped curtains in harmonious colors.
For a child's room, blue roller blinds, tulle and classic curtains with pink or gold patterns are suitable.
Blue bedroom – calm and freshness
Blue is a cool color. A blue bedroom allows you to find peace. On the other hand, from the point of view of the interior and design of a bedroom in blue tones, blue optically expands any space.
How the bedroom interior will look in blue tones depends mainly on the combinations. The best option would be to combine several shades of blue with classic white or gray.
Pair with silver accessories to create a nice set of colors for a calm blue-grey bedroom. To avoid boredom, you can combine different patterns and textures.
Classic, modern, avant-garde
The most common would be a white stretch ceiling. But it also looks very modern, thanks to its texture, which can be:
- silk;
- satin;
- matte velvet.
In addition, the “plasterboard box” design perfectly shades the main canvas and allows you to give it an unusual shape. Such an impeccably clean and airy “top” of the living room will expand its walls and will highlight any furniture – from classic to high-tech. A crystal chandelier or a multi-colored plastic lamp will be equally appropriate on a white background, which will show all the advantages of bold color schemes.
Steel-colored stretch ceilings are no less popular. They do not suppress other colors and go well with most colors. Pearl grey, smoky shades are as easy to perceive as white, but look more modern and sharper. The steel-gray, asphalt color of the stretch ceiling requires a more careful approach to the selection of “companions”. In order to add “air” to it, it is recommended to frame it with snow-white plasterboard.
A blue stretch ceiling in the interior can be called a symbol of stable peace. He seems to be talking about the clear weather in the house, the friendly relations of those who live in it. This color is associated with space and eternal values, and therefore goes well with white furniture, gold fittings, and matching silk fabrics. At the same time, it is quite demanding of textiles and coatings under its “cover.”
Peculiarities
If this particular color is chosen for the design of the floor, it is worth knowing some of the peculiarities of the perception of rooms with similar floor finishing. Color has a very strong influence on how the interior is perceived as a whole and says a lot about the owners of the house. The main psychological features of dark blue design are:
- Self confidence
- Calm
- Stability
- Solidity
- Ability to experiment
All these qualities are inherent in those people who dare to choose such an unusual canvas for installation in their home. However, you should not get too carried away with this color scheme - the walls in the room should not be the same shade as the ceiling. If the entire interior is the same blue, the effect of the chosen color scheme will be the opposite - it will begin to cause despondency, and the room will seem gloomy and boring.
Blue wallpaper in the interior: which curtains and ceiling to choose
Blue color is very often used to decorate various rooms of the house, be it a living room, kitchen, bedroom or children's room. Blue wallpaper in the interior is very easy to harmonize with other shades, and as the main color it creates a calm, gentle atmosphere.
For example, a soft blue pastel shade is an ideal choice for decorating a bedroom, because it does not “load” the interior, but, on the contrary, will create a feeling of peace and cleanliness.
Color combinations
Modern industry offers a wide range of ready-made paints and materials. You can choose the desired shade in the store or experiment with mixtures at home
It is important to remember the rules for combining blue with other colors and undertones
- Dark blue harmonizes well with purple and black
- Muted blue will go well with bright blue, burgundy, light beige
- The bluish-purple hue can be diluted well with dark lavender, beige-gray and muted blue.
- Bluish-gray can be shaded with wormwood, dark chocolate, dark fuchsia flowers
- Pale blue combines well with turquoise in different shades
Design
Plain
Wallpaper without a pattern or pattern can be used to cover the entire room or just one wall. They are combined with white or contrasting moldings. Wallpaper in blue tones does not look boring, since the emphasis is on the texture (waves, herringbone, speckled, polka dots, etc.) of vinyl or glass wallpaper. Neutral style is suitable for modern, Scandinavian and classic interiors.
Plain wallpaper does not need to be matched to the joint.
With ornament
The combination of identical shapes and lines, where the sequence of alternation and change of sizes creates dynamics in the interior.
The geometry looks best in a large version.

Suitable for art deco and classic style. Depending on the material of the wallpaper, it can be embossed or flat.
Flowered
This pattern is characterized by an interweaving of leaves, flowers, branches and grass.
When wallpapering, you need to follow the continuation of the fragment.
Flowers can be large or small, white, pink or red. Suitable for classic, English, country and Provence styles.

Images of birds and animals
A print with birds or butterflies is well suited for Provence or shabby chic style, and will also be a good idea for creating an accent wall in a modern interior.
Stripes
Striped wallpaper can be vertical (which will visually raise the ceiling), horizontal (will expand the space, but make the room lower), large (suitable for a large room) and small (for a small one). The strip can alternate with a different pattern, with stripes of a different color, or be plain.
Suitable for minimalism and classic interiors.

Photo wallpaper, 3d wallpaper
An excellent choice for any room, they will help visually enlarge a small room.

Blue walls with gray in the interior
The basis for the room should be blue. It is advisable that there be twice as much of it as gray. This ratio ensures comfort in the room and style.
If a sky blue color is chosen for the decoration of the walls and ceiling in the interior, it can be complemented with wood shades.
The teal design is sophisticated. It is desirable that the walls differ in color from the furniture.
Blue walls are typical for country and Provence styles. They are matched with turquoise-colored furniture and accessories.
Blue wall decoration, diluted with bright orange accents, will add picturesqueness and cheerfulness to the interior.
White is suitable for the bathroom. Even a small room looks more spacious when combined with blue wall paint and white fixtures and furniture.
For those who like unusual solutions, it is recommended to paint one of the walls with blue, lavender, turquoise paint, and finish the other three with light gray. The accent wall is decorated with paintings, photographs, and other accessories.
Monochrome gray-blue in the interior is diluted with bright paintings and mirrors. A white stripe on wallpaper or textiles can enliven a room and make it stylish.
Wooden floors and warm light brown curtains perfectly neutralize the coolness of the blue interior.
Blue ceilings in modern styles
Blue stretch ceilings are a real find for most designers. This is due to the fact that this color, if necessary, can be combined with almost any shade
If you choose the colors correctly, you can present the room from its advantage, as it provides a unique opportunity to hide all existing shortcomings, emphasize the advantages and focus on the design solution
Blue stretch ceiling
Thanks to light blue shades, you can visually make the room larger. If the room is made in a marine style, then a light blue stretch ceiling is perfect. Such suspended ceilings look most advantageous in a classic style, which contains aristocratic design notes; in addition, this option is perfect for the Provence style
When choosing this shade, it is important to pay attention to the presence of shading decorative elements. By following all the recommendations, you can make the room natural and delicate.
Turquoise stretch ceilings
Bright turquoise tones are usually used when decorating rooms in a tropical style, since it, like the marine style, is associated with a heavenly shade of the ceiling. This direction is considered a win-win option. If you plan to implement a design project in a tropical style, then you must use natural willow vine, bamboo or any other wood. Curtains should be milky, furniture in light colors. Indoor plants should resemble palm trees in appearance. Thematic paintings and decorative elements are used as an addition.
Dark blue ceiling color
The dark blue stretch ceiling is considered an original solution. As a rule, this option is chosen by strong and purposeful people who like to experiment. The implementation of such a design solution is only possible if the room is large and has a sufficient number of lighting fixtures.
Combination of blue with other shades
To understand which wallpaper is suitable for a blue ceiling, you should first consider combination options with other tones. The interior will look harmonious if the following tones are used in combination with blue during installation work:
- white-blue - is a universal solution, as it goes well with absolutely any tones; depending on what depth of blue shade is chosen, you can radically change the room;
- blue-yellow – if you use graphic patterns or a stretch ceiling with a printed pattern, then this option is perfect for decorating a children’s room;
- red-blue - this option is usually used for rooms made in oriental style; as an addition, you can use decorative elements of gold color;
- black and blue is a brutal combination, ideal for office design.
Thanks to the combination of summer tones, you can imbue the room with positive energy.
Blue ceiling in different rooms
The versatility of blue allows it to be used in any functional room - bedroom, nursery, kitchen, bathroom, living room, terrace.
Living room
To give the living room a cozy, invigorating and elegant atmosphere, a ceiling with cornflower blue and soft blue shades is perfect. A feeling of luxury will be created by a dark blue color with a metallic tint and silver highlights. A pale blue suspended ceiling can be included in the design of a living room in a country house or country house.
Bedroom
It is optimal to install a blue ceiling in the bedroom, as this will have a psychological relaxation effect on a tired person. In combination with pastel and beige tones of other decorations, the room will look very cozy. And if you add contrasting details to the floor and walls, the ceiling will become even more similar to the sky.
Kitchen
Even though blue is a cool color, it is often used on kitchen ceilings. Light colors evoke thoughts of cleanliness and order, and a correctly selected combination of interior details and different shades will make the design holistic. Silver household appliances will perfectly complement the blue ceiling.
Bathroom
The purpose of the bathroom is directly related to the blue water element. Therefore, decorating the top in a blue palette is an excellent solution. Stretch ceilings are best suited for rooms with high humidity. You can print photos of seascapes, fish, and flowers on them, which will create a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere.
Children's
Depending on the age and gender of the child, the room is decorated in different styles.
- For very young children, calm, pale blue tones are best. The combination of the sky vault with white trim is relaxing and calming
- For a three-year-old boy, combine a cloudy ceiling with a cool blue-green palette of the rest of the decor.
- For a girl, warm shades will be more harmonious.
- The student will be interested in the design of the ceiling in a space theme
- For a teenager, you can put a photo of your favorite music group on a blue stretch ceiling
The blue ceiling is a multifunctional solution for decorating any room. With a well-chosen shade and compatibility of other interior elements, it will have a positive impact on a person’s perception and well-being.
Dark ceiling in the interior: rules and techniques
1. Actual height. Choosing a dark ceiling for a low room is a significant risk. This idea should be seriously considered only if the ceiling height is at least 250 cm for the bathroom and 270 cm for the kitchen and rooms.
The higher the ceiling, the darker its color can be. In rooms with a height of 3-3.5 meters, even coal-black ceilings will not press.
2. The influence of shades. Cool and cold tones create a semblance of a bottomless night sky. Such a ceiling can more successfully cope with the task of visually increasing height than a white one. Shades from this group: gray, gray-blue, gray-blue, graphite, etc.
Warm tones visually move closer to us, so a brown ceiling will most likely “lower” noticeably. Therefore, it is only suitable for very high rooms. But if the effect of “pressure” does not scare you, feel free to ignore this thesis.
By the way, although the brown wooden ceiling seems lower than it is, it makes the room more comfortable. A tree is always a tree: it warms, soothes, pacifies.
3. Ceiling frame. To make the walls seem a little higher, you need to enclose a dark ceiling in a light frame, that is, create a narrow or wide border in the color of the walls around the perimeter of the ceiling.
The walls in this case, of course, should be light. This will visually increase their height and prevent the ceiling from “dropping”.
4. Dark frame. If the task is to visually lower a room that is too high, the reverse technique will be effective: you need to place the ceiling on the walls, that is, create a dark wall border that encircles the room.
The dark ceiling in the photo above was created with the aim of visually reducing the height (project of the architectural studio Svoya studio)
5. Combined option. If in doubt, you can choose a careful two-color scheme, which implies the inclusion of dark fragments in the light field of the ceiling.
These accent areas can work for zoning. For example, a dark rectangular insert on the ceiling will highlight the dining area in the kitchen or the bed area in the bedroom.
Based on the type of materials used, such a two-color ceiling is usually combined. For example, a light suspended structure can be complemented by a dark tension insert, and a light painted ceiling can be complemented with dark-colored wallpaper.
6. Combination with the color of the walls and floor. Of course, a variety of combinations are possible here, but the most universal choice is neutral light walls. The floors can also be dark. If something happens, you can always lay a light carpet on them.
If the room itself is bright thanks to large windows located on the sunny side, some of the walls can be made dark.
In a dark interior, the furniture should be light, because contrasts are simply necessary. Few people will be pleased with the interior, all the components of which merge into a single dark spot.
7. A large number of light sources. Dark colors absorb light, unlike white, which is reflective. Be prepared for the fact that with a dark ceiling the room will become much gloomier than with a light one.
Electric lighting will save you from gloom; there should be as much of it as possible in a room with a dark ceiling. Additional light sources are especially important in the areas furthest from the window.
Don't let window treatments block the flow of natural daylight. Having chosen a dark ceiling, use a transparent veil on the window. If possible, leave the windows completely “undressed”. Light and cleanliness in themselves are a wonderful window decoration.
8. Color consistency. The ceiling should coexist harmoniously with the rest of the interior elements. So, if the room is made in beige and brown tones, a black ceiling will be inappropriate - it will completely ruin the interior.
It is not necessary that the color of the ceiling be repeated in any details, but it should be organically woven into the main palette and not contradict it. For example, in a gray and white room, a black ceiling will be successful, since all the tones used are from the same achromatic family.
A dark gray top will suit almost any setting. A colored ceiling (for example, blue or purple) will become a spectacular accent in a monochrome, neutral interior. But if desired, the color of such a ceiling can be tied to the color of the floor, upholstered furniture or other interior components.
Shade - its perception and features of application in the interior
Cyan is a shade of blue and it is this shade that is associated with peace, melancholy, relaxation and tranquility. In other words, this color helps restore strength even more than warm greens.
But it would be wrong to think that the blue of the sky relaxes and induces sleep, making us more apathetic. No, there are different shades of green for that. The color of the sky relaxes and pacifies, but at the same time promotes intellectual and creative activity.
Summarizing the above, we will draw several conclusions about the advisability of using blue shades in the design of interiors:
- Heavenly shades will be especially relevant in the nursery and office, as this will have a beneficial effect on your well-being, and you will be much less likely to remember fatigue;
- The sky on the ceiling is an excellent solution for arranging rooms in one way or another related to water, namely bathrooms, showers and indoor pools;
- Light shades of blue are associated with cleanliness, so this design can be used in the kitchen, provided that you really keep it clean;
- Light shades of blue are a universal solution in terms of combination with other colors, provided that these colors are not very saturated;
- Despite their versatility, blue ceilings require a careful and thoughtful choice of combination with other colors, otherwise the interior design will look tacky.
If the ceiling is blue, then the walls can also be made blue, but the tone is darker. This win-win solution has proven itself well when arranging small, cramped rooms with low ceilings.
Review of interiors
In this photo you can see how different shades of blue can be combined with white elements of the surroundings.
Despite the complexity of the image of clouds on the ceiling, the abundance of stucco and other decor, the room is essentially decorated in two colors and despite this the design does not seem boring. On the contrary, the interior turned out to be very rich and lively.
Bay windows, air curtains and a crystal chandelier complement the feeling of weightlessness of the room. Of course, other elements of the surroundings, such as furniture and flooring, should also not fall out of the applied color scheme.
If you think that the price of such ceiling design is high, you are mistaken. What you see in the photo is a stretch vinyl ceiling. Such designs are becoming more common and their cost is becoming more affordable. For example, the price of 1 m² of vinyl canvas with a heavenly print, including installation, will be no more than $30.
How can a room decorated in such an unusual color scheme be used? I believe that such combinations would be appropriate in the interior of a spacious living room, dining room and bedroom. In small rooms, this color scheme in combination with stucco and crystal will be perceived as inappropriate.
In this photo you can see an example of the unsuccessful use of celestial motifs in the design of a living room. However, everything is in order with the ceiling, walls and drapery, but hidden lighting and spotlights look unnecessary and inappropriate. Such errors indicate that the interior design was partly borrowed from fashion magazines, and partly thought up independently.
The following example of using a blue tint in room decoration can be considered successful. Despite the combination of warm and cold tones, the design of the walls and ceiling looks harmonious. Moreover, in the decor, two-level ceiling structures are harmoniously combined with a classic chandelier. In another situation, such decisions would be viewed controversially.
But in the next photo you can see an example of how a blue stretch ceiling is poorly integrated into the interior.
The ceiling and walls merge into one; even the separating white baseboards at their junction and the white insert with spot lighting cannot help. Such a design solution would be appropriate in a bathroom or in an indoor swimming pool, but what we see in the photo is the design of a living room in a typical apartment.
The next example of using shades of blue in interior design is more successful.
In the photo you can see a modern kitchen, where the blue ceiling chandelier goes well with the decoration of the ceiling and walls, made in a similar color scheme. The use of silver household appliances complements the applied color scheme.
To prevent the room from seeming boring and monotonous, hanging furniture and Roman blinds, made in warm colors, were installed. As a result, the kitchen design is perceived holistically, the furniture does not look bulky and the ceiling does not press.
Practical recommendations for choosing combinations in room decor
- If you want the design of the room to look holistic, try using a blue sky ceiling with cold white walls - the desired result will be guaranteed;
- If you want the interior to not look boring and monotonous, try combining shades of blue with pale green details;
- Decorating rooms in cool colors will look more stylish and modern if you complement it with well-planned furniture;
- Try to implement a hidden lighting scheme so that the room is illuminated in a zoned manner;
- When decorating rooms with blue ceilings, try to use natural finishes;
- Avoid flashy, catchy combinations, as only professional decorators can use them with shades of blue;
- Avoid combining decorative elements made from natural wood with shades of blue, as such combinations are perceived controversially.
Rules for selecting wallpaper and curtains
Designers often break the rules of color combinations, and then get new, non-standard, but effective solutions. In the case of blue, you don’t have to break any rules: it provides wide freedom of action and can be combined with a large number of colors and shades.
Wallpaper
Designer recommendations when choosing colors for walls:
Pink. A fresh, soft combination, if the tones are blurry, pastel. Bright fuchsia creates boldness, but will add femininity to the interior. Orange. Muted shades look better - light and yellowish peach, sea buckthorn. Yellow. Warm color highlights cold blue, expressiveness will come. Ultramarine combined with bright yellow is a fashionable solution for a youth living room, bedroom and even bathroom. Warm green. Medium blue is good with pistachio, light green, and moss. Cool green
Here you should pay attention to the color of the water: menthol, patina, jade. They are suitable for a marine palette. Violet
A related shade should be in harmony with blue. For wallpaper, blue-violet and purple are suitable. Brown. Such ensembles are discreet, but expressive. The most successful pairs are with camel, tan, sepia (aged yellow newsprint), and beige. Turquoise is paired with chocolate wallpaper. Grey. Two-color design looks strict, businesslike, and is often found in offices. On gray walls, prints in the color of wet asphalt and blue-black are acceptable. Golden, silver. With blue, precious metals look restrained and aristocratic. Colorists note: this is one of the few colors that makes gold appear more modest.
If these combinations seem risky or for some reason do not fit into the concept, select others for the ceiling - turquoise, black and blue, aquamarine, sapphire, sky blue. The flow of shades and gradient compositions look impressive.
At the same time, designers do not recommend creating a monotonous interior, as it causes psychological discomfort. Different shades of blue suit different styles:
- pastel, calm, in combination with light wallpaper - for rooms in the style of Provence, shabby chic, classic;
- clean, catchy - for futurism, pop art, postmodernism;
- expressive, graphic with contrasting colors - for a young person’s apartment.
Curtains
Curtains match the floor covering and walls. Or you can decorate it in the same color as the ceiling. If the room is small, then light curtains or roller shutters will add space.
Checkered textiles are good for country style, striped textiles are good for nautical style. Curtains can be a third color from the proposed combinations.
Blue and red are a powerful, flashy combination. It is risky to use it on walls, except in detail. But for curtains it’s easy, especially in combination with white walls. However, the shade should be a tone lighter or darker than the stretch fabric.
Don't be afraid of blue in the interior. If you use it wisely, your home will gain style and chic. Color will help you relax or, on the contrary, gain strength. In order not to make a mistake in choosing the canvas, texture and shade, they make a visualization of the project. Only after viewing the sketches can you safely buy the selected stretch ceiling model.
Which finishing method to choose
Naturally, the cheapest option will be to simply paint the surface without leveling it. However, as practice shows, this option is the least popular. This is due to the fact that the plane will not be ideal in any case - the standard floor contains small irregularities and defects, the elimination of which will lead to an increase in material and time costs, which reduces the attractiveness of this repair method.
Drywall is very popular and compositions assembled from it can be very attractive in appearance. The costs in this case will be either less than when leveling standard floors, or of a comparable size. In addition, by painting the levels of multi-tiered compositions in different colors, you can get very beautiful combinations. However, it will take a lot of time to finish. The photo below shows a light blue plasterboard ceiling.
The greatest scope when choosing the appearance of the finish is given by the stretched fabric. Compositions can be multi-colored, have several levels, and in addition, using this material you can create interesting visual effects at low cost. By placing hidden lighting around the perimeter of the room, you can create a “floating” blue ceiling. The name is associated with the visual effect - it seems that the plane is not connected to the walls and floats in the air separately from them.
You can choose your design option based on the size of your renovation budget or based on what you want to see in the end. Some options will look more familiar - painted surfaces, or you can use modern technologies and give the room an unusual look - install a tension covering with hidden lighting.
At the same time, film or textile coverings provide another excellent opportunity to create a unique ceiling decor in a room - to combine several colors in one ceiling structure. For example, install a white-blue stretch ceiling, which gives additional visual volume to the room.
